
Walk Engagement Committee Member - Volunteer Position
Title of Position: Walk Engagement Committee Member Do you like making connections in your community? Do you naturally share and invite others to community events? Are you looking to gain experience on a committee? In this role, you would be the local champion for the Walk for Alzheimer’s! You would connect your community to know how to get involved and support the Alzheimer Society and all the programs and support offered.
Our Mission: The Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories brings awareness to Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias; helps alleviate the personal and social consequences of the disease; provides education and support programs; and promotes and funds research into the cause, prevention, and cure. Our Values: CARE: Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Empathy Position Purpose: A Member of the Walk Engagement Committee connects the Alzheimer Society of Alberta & Northwest Territories (AS ABNT) with its local communities for a successful Walk for Alzheimer’s each May. In support of the AS ABNT mission, this volunteer position brings awareness to Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias by promoting and engaging with their community through marketing and reaching out for sponsors in support of the Walk for Alzheimer’s. The tasks and responsibilities completed ensure a successful event and the formation of new connections and partnerships between AS ABNT and the communities it serves. Tasks / Responsibilities: Tasks for each Walk Engagement Committee Member may be delegated depending on the composition of the committee to best utilize each members individual strengths and skills. Some of the tasks and responsibilities of the Walk Engagement Committee include, but are not limited to:
• Attending committee meetings
• Promotion of the Walk for Alzheimer’s in the community
• Seeking sponsorships in the community
• Advise staff regarding local trends and community hubs relevant to decisions and details regarding the Walk for Alzheimer’s (For example, providing names of community leaders to be involved at the day of the Walk)
• Follow guidelines, policies, and procedures for volunteering with AS ABNT Skills:
• Strong interpersonal skills, professional demeanor
• Collaborative and works well in a group
• Community-minded – involved in local community and aware of local businesses and community hubs
Location / Setting: Grande Prairie
Time Commitment: 3-4 hours per month with more hours expected closer to the event date. Committee term February 5th to May 30th, 2024
Supervision: Primary contact and supervision will be through the Walk for Alzheimer’s Event Coordinator.

• Media and communications release
• Confidentiality Agreement
• Interview
• Volunteer Agreement Evaluation / Feedback: Feedback encouraged and surveys sent regularly by Volunteer Engagement Coordinator for opportunity to provide formal feedback. Exit feedback survey and evaluation to be completed at the last committee meeting.
