About Us:

The Canadian Center for Women’s Empowerment is based in Ottawa, and the only Canadian non-profit dedicated to addressing all forms of Economic Abuse and economic injustice. CCFWE combats systemic barriers faced by women experiencing Economic Abuse survivors through education, community-based research, economic and financial empowerment, policy influencing and system change. Our work applies an equity-lens to policy and is informed by evidence and lived experience of victim-survivors. Our work focuses on Economic Abuse prevention and response through meaningful community engagement. We bring violence and trauma -informed practices to inform policy systems, enabling victims, survivors, and their families to achieve economic empowerment.

Level of Commitment:

Remote: 2-5 hours per week.

Duration: Minimum 3 months commitment mandatory

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist clients in preparing and filing personal income tax returns (for simple tax situations)

  • Ensure compliance with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) guidelines and Ontario tax regulations

  • Maintain strict confidentiality and sensitivity when working with survivors

  • Provide clear, supportive explanations of tax-related matters to clients

  • Identify cases requiring professional tax assistance and refer clients as necessary

  • Collaborate with CCFWE’s financial empowerment team to support clients holistically

Qualifications & Skills

  • Knowledge of personal income tax filing (experience with the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) is an asset).

  • Familiarity with Ontario and federal tax benefits for low-income individuals.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide compassionate assistance.

  • Experience working with vulnerable populations is considered an asset.

  • Ability to work independently while maintaining professionalism and discretion

  • Completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check

  • Willingness to complete CRA’s CVITP online training (if not already certified).
