Volunteer: Vice President, Board of Directors

Carlington Community Connection is entering an important season of growth, renewal, and transition. Rooted in a long history of compassionate presence in the Carlington neighbourhood, the organization continues to create welcoming spaces where people can find support, build relationships, share their gifts, and experience belonging. A central part of this work is helping neighbours overcome loneliness and isolation by creating opportunities for connection, friendship, mutual support, and meaningful participation in community life. As programs expand and community needs evolve, we are seeking thoughtful volunteer leadership to help guide this next chapter with care, purpose, and hope.

About the Role

The Vice-President of the Board of Directors is a volunteer leadership role for someone who cares deeply about community, inclusion, and strengthening local connections. Working closely with the Board Chair, fellow directors, staff, volunteers, and community partners, the Vice-President helps provide steady governance leadership while supporting Carlington Community Connection through a period of organizational growth and change.

This role is both practical and relational. It calls for someone who can listen well, think strategically, encourage others, and help the organization remain grounded in its mission while preparing for the future. The ideal person will bring a genuine interest in community development, a willingness to support fundraising and relationship-building, and a commitment to ensuring that the Board reflects the diversity, dignity, and lived experience of the community it serves.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Board Chair in providing leadership to the Board of Directors and step in when needed to chair meetings or represent the Board.
• Help strengthen good governance practices as Carlington Community Connection grows and adapts to new opportunities, responsibilities, and community needs.
• Contribute to strategic planning, organizational development, and thoughtful decision-making during this period of transition.
• Encourage a Board culture that is collaborative, respectful, inclusive, and grounded in trust.
• Support fundraising efforts by helping build relationships, opening doors, sharing ideas, and encouraging a culture of generosity and community investment.
• Participate in discussions about community development, partnership opportunities, program growth, and long-term sustainability, with particular attention to how programs can reduce loneliness and isolation.
• Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in Board conversations, policies, recruitment, and organizational priorities.
• Act as an ambassador for Carlington Community Connection by speaking warmly and professionally about its mission, values, programs, and impact.

• Can respect confidentiality, support collective decision-making, and act with integrity on behalf of the organization and community.

Time Commitment

The expected time commitment is approximately 6 to 8 hours per month, including Board meetings, preparation time, committee or working group participation, and occasional community or fundraising events. The role is flexible, and accommodations can be discussed to support meaningful participation.
