PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Ensures the safe, timely and effective vaccination of the animals in VOKRA’s care by:
    • Working with fosters to schedule vaccination appointments on a timely basis.
    • Reporting vaccination details to the Vaccinations Team on a timely basis.
    • Maintaining current vaccination supply kits.
    • Doing a general health check of the cats at the foster’s home prior to administering the vaccine.
    • Reporting any concerns or issues related to the vaccination situation or experience to the Vaccination Team Lead.
  2. Ensures the ongoing safety of the cats in VOKRA’s care by:
    • Adhering to VOKRA Vaccination Protocol at all times.
    • Adhering to processes outlined in the Information and Guidelines for Vaccinators (Vaccinators’ Handbook).
  3. Provides additional support to the Vaccinations Team by:
    • Training and mentoring vaccinator trainees as requested from time to time.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Under the guidance and direction of the Vaccinations Team administrators, works independently as well as part of a team.

Training of new volunteers is provided in situ by experienced vaccinators.


UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS
  • The work is performed at the homes of the fosters.
  • Some local travel is required; the vaccinator may specify the geographic boundaries they would prefer to work within.
  • Occasionally at risk of being bitten, scratched, or injured by cats.

HOURS OF WORK
  • Self-paced within certain parameters; the vaccinator and the foster collaborate to find a mutually agreeable date and time.
  • Between 2 and 4 hours per week depending on the time of year and how many vaccination visits per week the volunteer is requested to conduct.

EQUIPMENT
  • The vaccination kits and supplies are provided by VOKRA (pickup at VOKRA’s Operations Centre).
  • Having access to a vehicle may be advantageous but is not a requirement.

QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience in the following is critical:
  • Basic cat husbandry and safe handling techniques.
  • Confidence in handling kittens/cats in a variety of situations.
  • Ability to carefully observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition, obvious signs of illness, disease and discontent.
  • Calm demeanor, not easily flustered.
  • Good organizational, time-management, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Taking the initiative to learn as not everything can be taught during training

Previous experience in the following is preferred, but not required:
  • Medical/Veterinary background
