Volunteer Tutor-Digital Literacy

Position: Volunteer Tutor Location: Remote Time Commitment: 1.5 – 3 hours per week Duration: Minimum 6 months

Overview: We are looking for dedicated volunteers to tutor adults in our Computer Skills classes. As a Computer Skills Tutor, you will facilitate learning in a small class setting, guiding 2-3 participants through the lessons provided and enhancing their digital literacy. We offer two computer skills classes – Basic Computer Skills and Computer Skills 2. Each computer class runs for 6 weeks, with a break in between cohorts. Classes are held on Mondays and Wednesday from 4:30pm to 6:00pm. Volunteers may choose to participate on one or more days, based on their availability. Skills Learned in Program: . Basic Computer Skills: Introduction to using a mouse and keyboard, creating and navigating files, writing and sending emails, and creating, saving, and editing documents in Microsoft Word. . Computer Skills 2: - MS Word: Create and format documents and tables, insert pictures, and use track changes. - MS Excel: Create and use sheets, insert and delete columns, and format cells, and use filters and

freeze panes - MS PowerPoint: Create and format slides, insert graphics, apply themes

Responsibilities:
• Tutor small groups of 2-3 of adults in basic computer skills
• Follow provided lesson plans and materials during each tutoring session.
• Support learners with hands-on practice and encourage engagement.
• Provide constructive feedback to help participants improve their skills.
• Create a welcoming, inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Qualifications:


• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Previous teaching or tutoring experience is an asset but not required.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patience, enthusiasm and a passion for helping others learn.
