Position: Volunteer Support Group Facilitator

Organization: Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) Canada

Location: Remote

Commitment: Flexible, approx. 3–5 hours per week

About SJS Canada

SJS Canada is dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by Stevens-Johnson

Syndrome (SJS) and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN). Our mission is to provide education,

advocacy, and emotional support to those impacted by these life-threatening conditions.

Role Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Volunteer Support Group Facilitator to lead our

monthly virtual support group. This group offers a safe and welcoming space where individuals

affected by SJS/TEN can share their experiences, seek guidance, and connect with others who

understand their journey.

Responsibilities


• Facilitate monthly virtual support group meetings in an inclusive, supportive, and

respectful manner.


• Encourage participation while ensuring a safe and confidential environment.


• Provide resources and information on coping strategies, medical updates, and emotional

well-being.


• Collaborate with the SJS Canada team to promote group meetings and maintain

engagement.


• Uphold confidentiality and foster a trusting space for open discussions.


• Refer participants to professional support services when necessary (e.g., medical or

mental health professionals).

Qualifications


• Personal experience with SJS/TEN (as a survivor, caregiver, or healthcare professional)

is strongly preferred.


• Experience in group facilitation, peer support, or counseling is an asset.


• Familiarity with supporting individuals coping with chronic illness.


• Strong communication and active listening skills with a compassionate approach.


• Ability to manage group dynamics and ensure a positive, inclusive environment.


• Comfortable using virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet).
