When: Friday 6-8 pm, June to September 2026

*Preference for those who would like to volunteer every 2 to 3 weeks

Who: Coaching kids, aged 6 to 12 years old, of all genders

About NUTMEG (Not-for-profit United Team of Mentors, Educators and Grassroots coaches)

Provides free soccer + social development programs for kids in Toronto. We’re driven by friendship, fun, respect, equity, education, and teamwork. We strive for a very high coach to child ratio (i.e., 1 coach to every 3 or 4 kids). We are a volunteer-run, not-for-profit organization.

Role Overview

As a volunteer coach, you’ll help run two sessions (1 hour each) on Friday evenings starting at 6 pm for kids aged 6-12 years old. Alongside head coaches, you will assist and mentor children focusing on:

  • Engaging kids in drills and scrimmages.
  • Teaching soccer skills while promoting confidence and teamwork.
  • Managing behavior and creating a positive, fun environment.

Each session includes: welcome, warm-up, drills, education, scrimmage, and wrap-up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Arrive by 5:50 PM to set up and connect with participants.
  • Build relationships with kids to identify their skills and needs.
  • Collaborate with the coaching team and communicate via Slack.

Qualifications

We’re looking for coaches who are:

  • Enthusiastic, dependable, and great with kids.
  • Adaptable in their coaching style to inspire diverse participants.
  • Role models who embody respect and teamwork.
  • Dedicated to inclusion, diversity and equity and building a safe space for all.

Bonus if you have:

  • Soccer or coaching experience.
  • First Aid training.
  • A passion for mentorship and community impact.

Requirements

  • Commitment to at least 4 sessions during the term.
  • Willingness to undergo a Vulnerable Sector Check police check (costs covered by NUTMEG).
  • Attend a NUTMEG Soccer training session (likely on Zoom or may be in person) as well as trauma- and violence-informed sport for development training.
