
Volunteer Publishing Associate: Writer (Remote)
- This is an unpaid volunteer opportunity and as an Associate you are required to contribute a minimum of 5 hours per week
- Associates must be willing to attend virtual meetings in EST Timezone and be responsive to emails within 48 hours.
- STW™ will provide a "letter of recommendation" to interns, students & professionals who are able to showcase outstanding performance for school/university credit and for professional references.

Save the Water™ is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to conduct water research to identify and remove harmful contaminants in water; and to raise public awareness about water contamination and its health impacts. STW™ also offers educational programs to excite young minds about water science.

Writers are expected to put in a minimum of 5 hours per week and be responsive to emails within 36 hours.
SUMMARY:
Research on approved STW water-related topics and produce articles in simple/plain language for the general audience for the Save The Water website.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Research topics on water contamination, water news, water technologies, etc. per month from appropriate sources according to guidelines.
- Write a minimum of one (1) research-based article per month according to the Publishing Guidelines on a topic approved by the Project Lead or Director, and as per the SEO guidelines.
- Attend the Publishing Group monthly meeting in the Eastern Timezone.
- Accurately cite articles from professionally appropriate sources according to guidelines and submit them by the deadline.
- Assist other STW™ groups with writing assignments or research for writing assignments as needed.
- Maintain volunteer responsibilities and correspondence with Publishing staff.
- Report to the Project Leader/Director.
Writing on water issues for external organizations.
EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:
- Passion for environmental causes.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (preferred)
- Ability to effectively translate and write articles in simple and plain language.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and details simultaneously.
- Must demonstrate effective oral communication and writing skills and the ability to work cooperatively.
- Requires self-direction, tact, diplomacy, and a clear, courteous, and professional manner when dealing with the public.
- Understanding of Peer Reviewed Sources.
- Basic understanding of Online web publishing and SEO.
- Willingness to learn new software/systems.
