At hEr VOLUTION, we are a not-for-profit organization that is passionate about uplifting young girls and non-conforming youth in STEM. In the Volunteer Public Relations Specialist role, you will be making a positive difference within the Marketing Committee, while working with individuals in other committees.

Position Overview

We are seeking a passionate and creative Volunteer Public Relations Specialist to help amplify our message and expand our community reach. The person in this position will play a key role in increasing public awareness, strengthening media relationships and monitoring public perceptions of hEr VOLUTION. This role is ideal for someone looking to build PR experience, expand their portfolio, and make a meaningful impact.

What You’ll Do

• Develop and execute public relations strategies aligned with organizational goals
• Draft statements on behalf of hEr VOLUTION as needed
• Monitor public comments on social media, direct messages, emails and other platforms to ensure timely and appropriate responses to inquires
• Build and maintain relationships with sponsors, current STEMing UP students, and STEMing UP alumni
• Pitch stories to media outlets and follow up on opportunities
  
• Monitor hEr VOLUTION coverage and collaborate with other organizations as opportunities arise
• Assist with crisis communication planning when needed
• Support event promotion and media outreach efforts
• Collaborate with others in the marketing committee to ensure consistent messaging
• Ensure that the hEr VOLUTION brand is consistent across platforms

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year commitment
• Passionate about STEM and youth
• Interested in nonprofit work
• Background in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related field
• Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
• Experience drafting press materials (preferred but not required)
• Knowledge of media relations best practices
• Excellent interpersonal communications skills
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
• Strong attention to detail
• Strong understanding of how to work as a part of a team
• Align with the hEr VOLUTION brand

• You are proactive and reply to questions and concerns about hEr VOLUTION in a timely manner
• You work with other committee members to understand public perceptions of hEr VOLUTION
• Strong ability to align with the hEr VOLUTION brand
