Valued Connections Healthcare is looking for volunteer Policy Advisors, Corporate Services

Position Summary
The Policy Advisor supports the CEO and senior leadership in developing, advancing, and implementing the agency’s corporate policy agenda. The Policy Advisor provides strategic advice, policy development, and issues management across key portfolios.

The ideal candidate is a politically astute thinker with a strong blend of policy and implementation experience in the areas of procurement, health information management, or information technology, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and a proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, patient-centered, quasi-public sector environment.
We are looking for policy advisors to drive both policy design, delivery, and implementation in all areas of Corporate Services as outlined below:

Supplier Relations and Procurement Unit

Supplier Relations and Procurement supports the procurement operations of the organization, including but not limited to leading requests for proposal, policy & process implementation, and design, along with supporting the day-to-day buying needs of program areas.

Privacy & Records Management

Privacy and Records Management supports the privacy and health records functions of the organization, including health information management, policy development, freedom of information, and release of information processes.

Information & Information Technology

The I&IT unit supports the ongoing evaluation, procurement, implementation, troubleshooting and management of the agency’s technology structures, laptops and mobile devices – additionally, the I&IT team supports tier 2 and tier 3 support tickets that require escalation.

Policy Development & Analysis

  • Conduct and analyze policy research, government standards, and stakeholder feedback to support the development and delivery of agency priorities.
  • Prepare policy options, briefing notes, and strategic recommendations for the Vice President, Director, and other senior staff.
  • Analyze complex policy issues across multiple branches and advise on political, fiscal, and operational implications.
  • Monitor policy changes, media, branch needs and stakeholder feedback on a regular basis

    Stakeholder Engagement & Coordination

  • Engage with public servants, stakeholders, and branch staff to inform and refine policy direction, product offerings, and business plan delivery
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships across the agency, the broader public sector, and relevant stakeholder sectors.

    Issues Management & Communications
  • Anticipate, identify, and manage emerging issues relating to your program area
  • Work with the communications team to inform communications materials.


    Qualifications Education & Experience

  • University degree in public policy, political science, law, economics, health policy, or a related field.
  • Policy or strategic advisory experience in government, public affairs, or a relevant sector (i.e IT for IT Policy)
  • Experience in a political, legislative, or government office/agency is strongly preferred.
  • Specialized knowledge in priority policy areas such as health and social policy, education, labour, economic development, fiscal policy or infrastructure is an asset.

Skills & Competencies

  • Deep understanding of Ontario’s political landscape and government processes.
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights for senior-level decision making.
  • Demonstrated political judgment, discretion, and the ability to navigate confidential and sensitive issues.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple files under tight timelines and shifting priorities.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to influence across levels and work in a highly dynamic team environment.
