Background

The Digital Sexual Violence Support Centre (DSVSC) is a Canadian nonprofit that provides nationwide peer support, workshops, community outreach and research to support adults who are experiencing technology-facilitated sexual violence (TFSV). Instances of TFSV can include intimate image abuse, impersonation for sexual purposes, doxxing of sexual information and more.

The DSVSC operates on a virtual basis and all meetings are set to Eastern Standard Time.

Commitment: 4 months

Timing: 3-10 hours per month

Location: The candidate must currently reside in Canada

Age: Candidates must be at least 18 years old

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Edit the podcast audios for clarity, while respecting the privacy and confidentiality of survivors' details (e.g. remove unwanted noises and background sounds, address technical issues etc.)
  • Add sound effects to the podcasts such as intro and outro music and special sound effects, as needed
  • Work collaboratively with the podcast host(s) to develop a cohesive narrative for the podcast episodes, including the story line, Q&A portion and related variables
  • Suggest new guests for podcast episodes that have experience related to social services, the gender based violence sector, shelters or related space
  • Contribute to suggestions for advertisers and sponsors that fit the context of the podcast
  • Upload the podcast episodes to reliable and accessible podcasting platforms
  • Work alongside the social media team to help create copy to advertise the podcast releases
  • Monitor the performance metrics of each episode including the podcast listeners demographics, listening time and take note of listeners' suggestions
  • Add content warnings and draft the episode notes, including some of the relevant resources discussed during the episode
  • Manage correspondence related to the podcast (e.g. emails from prospective podcast guests, advertisers and sponsors)

Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Previous experience editing and producing a podcast required
  • Great understanding of sound engineering and story development preferred
  • Capable of working independently and contributing to team development
  • Willing to learn about technology-facilitated sexual violence
  • Willing to learn about podcast marketing

  • Student (High School)
