Volunteer with Building Up – 10-Year Anniversary Fundraiser

About Building Up

Building Up is a non-profit social enterprise dedicated to improving Toronto’s environmental efficiency and affordable housing stock while creating pathways to meaningful employment in the skilled trades.

We’re celebrating our 10-year anniversary with a special fundraising event — and we need an amazing volunteer team to make it happen! Whether you love hospitality, organization, or lending a hand wherever needed, there’s a role for you.

Volunteer Opportunities

1. Bar

• Serve drinks to guests (must be 18+).
• Maintain a clean and organized bar area.
• Provide friendly, efficient service.

2. Serving / Food Runners

• Deliver food to tables and replenish buffet or serving areas.
• Assist the catering team with set-up and clean-up.
• Ensure guests have everything they need.

3. Raffle Attendants

• Engage guests to purchase raffle tickets.
• Explain raffle details and prize information.
• Keep tickets and cash organized.
  

4. Check-In Table (Ticket Inspectors)

• Greet guests with a warm welcome.
• Scan tickets and provide event wristbands/materials.
• Answer general event questions.

5. Raffle & Drink Ticket Sales

• Sell tickets for raffles and beverages.
• Handle cash or electronic payment systems.
• Maintain accurate sales records.

6. Floaters / Clean-Up Crew

• Be ready to assist wherever help is needed.
• Keep event areas tidy and safe.
• Support other volunteers or staff as needed.

7. Merch Table

• Set up and display merchandise.
• Assist guests with purchases.
• Track inventory during and after the event.

8. Set-Up & Tear-Down

• Arrange tables, chairs, signage, and equipment before the event.
• Help with decorating and creating a welcoming space.
  Pack up, clean, and restore the venue after the event.
  

What We’re Looking For

• Friendly, reliable, and team-oriented volunteers.
• Willingness to commit to your scheduled shift.
• Ability to stand, walk, and/or lift, depending on your role.
• For bar service, you must be 18+.
