About SJS Canada
Stevens-Johnson Syndrome Canada is a non-profit Charity that aims to promote health by providing people suffering from Stevens Johnson Syndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (SJS/TEN) as well as their families and caregivers with access to related counselling, support groups and information programs. The President, a survivor of SJS/TEN founded this organization about 14 years ago. The intention is to promote education by providing workshops, forums and seminars about the disease and its effects, to the public and medical professionals.
Role Overview
Volunteer Marketing and Communications Coordinator will assist in promoting SJS Canada’s programs, mission, and events by supporting the development and implementation of effective marketing and communication strategies. This role is ideal for someone passionate about storytelling, community engagement, and creating a positive impact. This role involves creating content, managing media outreach, coordinating events, and helping to amplify the organization's message across multiple platforms.
Responsibilities
1. Marketing and Communications Strategy
- Collaborate with the team to plan and execute marketing campaigns.
- Support the development of communication materials aligned with the organization’s mission.
2. Content Creation
- Work on engaging visuals and graphics for marketing materials (using tools like Canva or Adobe).
- Draft and edit content for the website, social media platforms, newsletters, blogs, and other communications. Assist in writing press releases, promotional materials, and campaign messages.
- Create engaging visual and written content to support key initiatives
3. Social Media Management
- Manage and update social media accounts, ensuring consistent messaging.
- Schedule, post, and monitor content across various platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn).
- Respond to comments and messages to build community engagement.
- Develop content calendars and help plan posts to engage the online community. o Assist in marketing events through digital platforms, email campaigns, and local outreach.
- Design flyers and event pages to encourage participation.
4. Email Marketing, Event Promotion and Outreach
- Create and distribute email newsletters and updates to donors, volunteers, and supporters.
- Help promote upcoming events, webinars, and campaigns via digital channels.
- Support the creation of flyers, graphics, and other materials for events.
- Track open rates and engagement metrics to refine strategies.
5. Public Relations Support
- Assist in creating and maintaining media kits.
- Assist in building relationships with local media outlets to secure coverage for events and initiatives.
- Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, and pitch letters to promote the nonprofit’s work.
6. Analytics and Reporting
- Track the performance of marketing efforts, including social media engagement, email campaigns, and website traffic.
- Help suggest improvements to increase reach and impact.
- Prepare simple reports summarizing results and insights.
7. Collaboration and Coordination
- Work closely with other volunteers, and community partners to ensure consistent messaging.
- Attend meetings to discuss marketing and communication needs and strategies.
Qualifications
- Experience in marketing, communications, social media management, or related fields is a plus.
- Previous nonprofit experience is an asset but not required.
Skills
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and trends.
- Basic graphic design skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) are a bonus.
- Knowledge of email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp) and content management systems (e.g., WordPress) is helpful.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
