Committee Purpose and Overall Goals

The Marketing and Communications Committee supports Bloom’s mission by guiding and overseeing all marketing, communications, and brand activities. The committee ensures Bloom’s messaging is clear, consistent, compliant, and aligned with strategic goals while strengthening community engagement, awareness, and participation across all platforms.

The committee plays a key role in amplifying Bloom’s programs, initiatives, and advocacy efforts, supporting internal committees, and ensuring Bloom’s voice reflects its values and leadership within the industry.

Key Responsibilities

The Marketing and Communications Committee is responsible for strategic oversight and direction of all Bloom marketing and communications efforts, including:

  • Development and maintenance of a comprehensive content calendar for Bloom
  • Oversight of content creation for all Bloom branded and marketing materials
  • Oversight of all copywriting, messaging, and website content to ensure accuracy, tone, and brand consistency
  • Oversight of social media marketing and engagement, including management and performance guidance for LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram
  • Providing marketing and communications support to Bloom committees and initiatives as needed
  • Ensuring all marketing activities align with Bloom’s mission, strategic priorities, and brand standards
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable marketing regulations, including those related to cannabis in Canada and online platforms
  • Identifying opportunities to improve reach, engagement, and visibility through digital and community-based marketing efforts
  • Supporting campaigns, events, membership initiatives, and fundraising activities through effective communications

Governance and Accountability

  • The committee is accountable to the Board of Directors of Bloom
  • Regular Marketing and Communications Committee meetings are required
  • Meeting minutes must be recorded and maintained
  • Regular committee reports must be submitted to the Board of Directors outlining activities, outcomes, and recommendations

Qualifications and Experience for Success

Ideal committee members bring a mix of strategic thinking, collaboration, and execution experience. Preferred qualifications include:

  • Charity or non-profit experience is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Strong written communication and editing skills
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in marketing strategy, communications, or a related field
  • Knowledge of marketing regulations related to cannabis in Canada and online platforms
  • Experience with digital marketing, content strategy, and social media oversight
  • Ability to think strategically while supporting practical execution in a volunteer environment

Time Commitment

This is a volunteer role requiring participation in regular committee meetings, collaboration with other Bloom committees, and periodic strategic input between meetings as needed.

Estimated commitment: 3–6 hours per month, depending on programming schedule.
