Role Overview
Planet Watch is seeking a part‑time volunteer lawyer with strong working knowledge of the Ontario Not‑for‑Profit Corporations Act (ONCA) and related governance requirements. This role supports our board and leadership team in ensuring compliant, ethical, and effective nonprofit operations as we grow our programs and partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal guidance on ONCA compliance, including bylaws, governance structures, member rights, and board obligations.
- Review and advise on organizational policies (e.g., conflict of interest, privacy, volunteer agreements).
- Assist with drafting or revising bylaws, resolutions, and governance documents
- Advise on contracts, MOUs, and partnership agreements with external organizations.
- Ensure Planet Watch’s activities align with Ontario nonprofit legislation and ethical standards.
Qualifications
- Licensed lawyer in Ontario (or retired/inactive with relevant experience).
- Strong working knowledge of ONCA, Ontario nonprofit governance, and related regulatory frameworks.
- Experience with nonprofits, charities, or volunteer-led organizations is an asset.
- Commitment to climate action, education, and community empowerment.
