
Volunteer Kitchen Assistant
ABOUT ST. MARY'S HOME
St. Mary's Home is a center providing services to marginalized young pregnant women (ages 12-29), young parents, and their children. St. Mary's Home offers health care, educational programs, childcare, case management, and hot lunches daily to 450 youth annually.
ROLE
To assist in the Kitchen Facilitator in whatever way deemed necessary (e.g. cleaning, preparatory work, some cooking, interacting with participants.
BACKGROUND
- Experience working in a kitchen.
- Must be 18 or older
- Kitchen safety course/certificate considered an asset.
- Satisfactory vulnerable sectors police background check.
SKILLS NEEDED
- Ability to work flexibly and take direction.
- Ability to support and encourage participants in ongoing participation in cooking projects.
- Ability to support a fun and welcoming learning environment.
- Ability to work with the Kitchen Facilitator to ensure proper policies and procedures are implemented and followed.
- Ability to work with the administration and leadership teams to ensure proper tracking of participation, and evaluation of program to meet funding, accreditation, and licensing requirements.
PERSONAL QUALITIES NEEDED
- Desire to support and share skills and talents with others.
- Non-judgmental, patient, and empathetic.
- Reliable and punctual for shifts.
TASKS INVOLVED
- Support the Kitchen Facilitator by cleaning as they cook.
- Complete necessary food preparation.
- Set-up dining room for lunch.
- Clean-up of dining room after lunch (including cleaning of dishes, cleaning and disinfecting tables, chairs, and highchairs).
