
Volunteer Human Resources Associate
The Digital Sexual Violence Support Centre (DSVSC) is a Canadian and federally-incorporated non-profit that provides educational resources, research, and advocacy support for adult survivors of technology-facilitated sexual violence. The includes adults living in Canada who have faced online sexual harassment, doxxing, intimate image abuse, cyber-stalking, and the creation of sexual deepfake images and videos. The DSVSC is based in Ontario, Canada and operates on a virtual basis.
- Time: 2-4 hours per week (or 8-16 hours per month)
ALL MEETINGS ARE SET IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME
- Minimum commitment: 5 months
Location: Virtual/remote in Canada.
This position is exclusively open to those living in Canada.
Key Tasks:
Recruitment
- Create and post volunteer position openings on Charity Village and LinkedIn
- Draft volunteer and contract position descriptions that are detailed and relevant to our organization (e.g. focus on gender-based violence prevention and survivor advocacy)
- Conduct candidate interviews via Zoom or Google Meet, document their responses and contribute to the final hiring decision
- Conduct background and criminal records checks when required
Onboarding
- Support the onboarding process including processing new hire paperwork and scheduling orientation sessions for new volunteers to the DSVSC.
- Serve as first point of contact for all new volunteers’ inquiries and triage with volunteer HR coordinator or other teams as needed.
- Send volunteer orientation packages including our organizational overview, internal staff directory and help provide access to our shared drives
Staff Retention and Recognition
- Support the development of a staff retention strategy
- Lead at least 1 (1-hour) staff virtual social per month for all staff (the virtual sessions are held via Zoom and include icebreakers, games and activities)
Administration
- Maintain accurate and updated volunteer and employee records
- Support benefit enrollment and administration for eligible employees
- Support the ongoing feedback reviews and exit interview process
Performance management
- Support with preparation of documents related to performance improvement, reassignment, discipline and exits.
Employee & Volunteer Relations
- Support the coordination of live and asynchronous learning and development activities for volunteers and employees of the DSVSC (e.g. staff lunch and learns and finding guest speakers)
- Support the HR Coordinator with volunteers’ complaints and grievances by tracking incident reports and providing status updates.
Eligibility requirements:
(The DSVSC is a non-profit that fosters intersectionalism and equity, therefore we welcome applications from those who do not meet 100% of the eligibility requirements)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Human Resources or currently enrolled in a HR program at a recognized post-secondary institution (Essential).
- Highly computer literate with capability in email, Google Drive, Slack, MS Office and related business and communication tools (Essential).
- Demonstrates sensitivity, confidentiality and maintains records with discretion.
- Demonstrates familiarity and good knowledge of Ontario Labor Laws
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
