Position Title: Volunteer Graphic Designer

Location: Hybrid (Remote with occasional in-office meetings, if required)

Time Commitment: Approximately 5-8 hours per week (flexible based on project needs)

Position Summary

We are seeking a creative and enthusiastic Volunteer Graphic Designer to support our communications and outreach efforts. This volunteer role is ideal for a student, recent graduate, or experienced designer looking to build their portfolio while making a positive impact in the community.

The successful volunteer will work with staff to design visually engaging promotional materials that help raise awareness of our programs, services, events, and volunteer opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design eye-catching graphics for social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other digital channels.
  • Create posters, flyers, banners, brochures, and other promotional materials for programs and community events.
  • Ensure all designs are consistent with the organization's branding and visual identity.
  • Collaborate with staff to understand project objectives and incorporate feedback into design revisions.
  • Prepare graphics in formats suitable for both digital and print use.
  • Assist with updating existing marketing materials as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience using graphic design software such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), or similar design platforms.
  • Creativity with a strong eye for layout, typography, colour, and visual communication.
  • Ability to create engaging graphics for social media and promotional campaigns.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while meeting agreed-upon deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to collaborate with staff.
  • A portfolio or samples of previous design work are considered an asset.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education or current studies in Graphic Design, Digital Media, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • Experience designing content for nonprofit organizations or community programs is an asset.
  • Familiarity with current social media design trends and accessibility best practices.
