Volunteer Job Description
Grant Writer GOAL The Canadian Migraine Society (CMS) is looking for an experienced and passionate Volunteer Grant Writer who, under the direction of the Founder and Director, will research grant opportunities, as well as prepare and write grant proposals to expand the mission and efforts of the organization. Previous experience with grant writing is key, along with strong writing skills and the ability to develop compelling grant applications. This role is remote and would require 3-4 hours per week, submitting a grant application every 6-8 weeks. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Grant Proposal Writing:
o Prepare, write, and submit well-researched, compelling grant proposals. o Tailor proposals to fit the specific requirements and guidelines of each funding
organization. o Craft clear narratives that align with the Canadian Migraine Society’s mission,
programs, and goals. 2. Grant Research:
o Identify new funding opportunities through thorough research on potential grant-making organizations.
o Stay updated on trends and priorities in the non-profit sector and funding landscape.
3. Collaboration and Coordination:
o Keep in regular communication with the Director of CMS. o Ensure deadlines are met, and proposals are submitted on time.
ASSIGNMENT BOUNDARIES All work is produced under the guidance of the CMS Director, and this volunteer will not create grants or proposals without permission. The commitment will be on an ongoing basis, 3-4 hours per week. QUALIFICATIONS
o Writing Skills: Excellent writing and editing skills with high-level attention to detail. An ability to clearly communicate our mission and impact to potential funders.
o Research Skills: Ability to research and identify potential funding sources. o Attention to Detail: Precision in following grant guidelines and requirements.
o Experience: Proven experience in grant writing is required as we do not have this expertise in our current team. An understanding of patient advocacy and health care organizations is ideal as well as experience in working with charities and non-profits.
o Organization and Time Management: Ability to manage projects and meet deadlines. In addition, a good understanding of nonprofit funding sources, databases, and relevant tools.
o Passion for Mission: An understanding and enthusiasm for the Canadian Migraine Society’s mission and a desire to make an impact.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
o Two Reference Checks. o Signed Volunteer Agreement. o Completed Volunteer Orientation when provided.
TRAINING & SUPERVISION
o Maya Carvalho, Founder and Director, will provide onboarding training to the volunteer on the organization’s history, mission and vision. She will oversee this volunteer position.
o Regular review of the Canadian Migraine Society website and other material as provided.
TIME COMMITMENT
