Volunteer Driver Position Description

Position Purpose: Assist Food Banks Mississauga’s Food Bank 2 Home Program with delivering food to those who experience mobility barriers that prevent them from going to their neighbourhood food bank.

Role Title: Volunteer Driver

Location: Start at Food Banks Mississauga main office (4544 Eastgate Parkway, Mississauga ON L4W 3W6) and drive to various locations within the city of Mississauga.

Responsibilities:
• Commit to a minimum of one shift a week - same day and time
• Commit to volunteer for a minimum of six-months
• Attend a virtual or in-person meeting (approx. 30 mins) prior to starting
• Pick up the food package(s) at the main location
• Deliver food to the door of the indicated client
• Rigorously follow the program guidelines and safety rules
• Maintain confidentiality regarding client information
• Be punctual and dependable
• Keep Food Bank Programs Team Lead informed regarding availability changes
• Provide Food Bank Programs Team Lead with as much notice as possible when not available

Reports to: Food Bank Programs Team Lead

Time Commitment: 2.5 hours per week minimum; 6-month commitment

Criteria/Qualifications:

• Caring and committed
• A resident of Peel or GTA
• Present a clear Vulnerable Sector Check
• Have a valid driver’s license and safe driving record with a maximum of 3 demerit points
• Provide photocopy of both license and vehicle insurance
• Access to a vehicle that is roadworthy and reliable
• A clear understanding of boundaries applied to this program
• Share the values of Food Banks Mississauga
• Knowledge of local community roads

Support provided:
• An initial thorough program description, ongoing support and appreciation
• Cart to help transport deliveries

The position of Volunteer Driver requires a rigorous level of screening that corresponds to the risk associated with volunteers who are unsupervised and need to deliver food to people’s homes.

• After the interview: 2 References and a Vulnerable Sector Check
