Keep the books behind a national health non-profit clean and trustworthy. The Canadian Covid Society is looking for a volunteer Finance Coordinator: a professional bookkeeper or accountant who can give a couple of hours a week to financial management that our board and donors can rely on.

About the Canadian Covid Society

We are a national non-profit founded by physicians, scientists, engineers, and advocates. Our mission is to inform the public about the health consequences of Covid infections, to advocate for science-based measures to reduce transmission, and to empower and support people with Long Covid. Our current campaigns include Clean Air in Schools, Safer Health Care, and Long Covid awareness and resources.

What you’ll do

Handle monthly bookkeeping: transaction entry, bank reconciliations, and monthend close

Track restricted and unrestricted funds and allocations by campaign (fund accounting)

Support budget preparation, forecasting, and variance analysis

Prepare clear monthly financial reports for the Treasurer and board

Strengthen internal controls and the expense reimbursement process; keep us audit-ready

Support compliance filings for a federally incorporated non-profit

What we’re looking for

Professional bookkeeping or accounting experience: full-cycle bookkeeping, reconciliations, and financial reporting

Fluency in QuickBooks Online, Wave, Xero, or similar cloud accounting software

Accuracy, discretion, and reliability: this is a trust role, and the Treasurer will rely on your numbers

Understanding of internal controls and segregation of duties

Nice to have: nonprofit or fund accounting experience (ASNPO), CPA or CPB designation, payroll, advanced Excel.

We’re looking for someone already fluent in the day-to-day of bookkeeping, the kind of person whose work stands on its own (though good controls mean a second set of eyes is always part of the process).

Time commitment

About 2 hours a week, on your own schedule, asynchronous-first

One short planning meeting a month at most, approximately one hour, always remote

100% remote, anywhere in Canada

What you get

Modern cloud tools and professional project management software: real systems, not shoeboxes of receipts

A meaningful governance role in a young national organization, working directly with the Treasurer

Board-level exposure and a reference that reflects professional work

A role designed to be flexible and accessible, including for people living with Long

Covid or who are medically vulnerable

How to apply

Apply by email to volunteer@covidsociety.ca with the role name in the subject line and a few lines about your experience. Together, we can fight this.
