Volunteer Family Support Worker

Friendly Times Community Connections (FTCC)

Friendly Times Community Connections (FTCC) is seeking compassionate and dedicated Volunteer Family Support Workers to provide family-centred support to children, youth, and caregivers across the Greater Toronto Area.

This role is ideal for individuals pursuing or working in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Psychology, Sociology, Community Services, Early Childhood Education, Family Studies, or related fields who are passionate about supporting vulnerable families through advocacy, resource navigation, and community engagement.

Responsibilities

- Conduct intake conversations with individuals and families.

- Complete strengths- and needs-based family assessments.

- Assist families in identifying goals and developing support plans.

- Connect families with appropriate community resources and services.

- Provide ongoing check-ins, encouragement, and emotional support.

- Advocate alongside families while helping them navigate community systems.

- Maintain accurate, confidential case notes and documentation.

- Participate in case consultations and volunteer supervision.

- Support crisis response initiatives and community outreach events as required.

- Build respectful, trusting relationships using a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and family-centred approach.

Qualifications

- Currently enrolled in or graduated from a program in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Psychology, Sociology, Community Services, Early Childhood Education, Family Studies, or a related discipline.

- Excellent communication and active listening skills.

- Compassionate, professional, organized, and dependable.

- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.

- Experience working with children, youth, or families is considered an asset.

- A Vulnerable Sector Check will be required before placement.
