Volunteer at Environmental Defence Canada
Environmental Defence has a volunteer program, and we want you to get involved! Are you interested in helping out at events, supporting community outreach, educating folks through social media or learning to advocate for change with your MP, MPP or local councillor? We offer a wide variety of both in-person and online volunteer opportunities that you can find on our new volunteer portal: Vome.
This summer we are calling on Ontario residents to get involved. Apply to become a volunteer today!
Who We Are:
Environmental Defence Canada (EDC) is a leading Canadian environmental
advocacy organization that works with government, industry and individuals to
defend clean water, a safe climate and healthy communities. We work to safeguard Canada’s freshwater, stop urban sprawl, get toxic chemicals out of the products we use, clean up plastic pollution and transition Canadians from using dirty fossil fuels to modern, clean energy.
About the Role:
Your role as an EDC Volunteer will vary widely depending on which opportunities you choose to support. There will be opportunities to help out at in-person events, like hikes or movie screenings, or remotely, such as posting a reel on social media about an environmental issue that’s important to you.
When you fill out our “New Volunteer” application form, you will be added to our volunteer database. Once approved, you will be able to see and apply for new opportunities posted on Environmental Defence Canada’s Vome homepage. You will also be automatically alerted to new volunteer opportunities as they arise, but have the flexibility to choose only those that are of interest.
If you are interested in particular environmental issues or topics, think of Vome as our “one-stop-shop” for all future volunteer postings! There will be opportunities to take action in different areas, like plastics, water, toxics, liveable communities and climate.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities will vary depending on which opportunity you choose, but could include helping out at events like clothing swaps or nature walks, hosting community conversations about environmental issues with your friends and family, or contacting your local Member of Parliament or MPP/MLA to advocate on an environmental issue.
Skills and Experience:
Skills and experience you gain could include public speaking, community engagement, civic advocacy or event coordination. Our opportunities are open to everyone, including high school students who need volunteer hours for credit.
Whether you are shy or extroverted, interested in online or in-person events, there will be something for everyone.
Location:
Remote opportunities take place in your own home or community.
In-person activities will occur in Toronto, Ottawa, and various other locations in southern Southern Ontario. This spring and summer we have lots on offer in Hamilton, Waterloo Region, Oakville, Brampton, Mississauga, York and Durham Region. Location specifics will be listed on each opportunity application.
