Unpaid Volunteer Position

This is a volunteer position that is not eligible for renumeration. Honorariums may be provided, subject on securing funding through fundraising initiatives.

Role: Director of Fundraising

Direct report: Board President

Term: 2-years

Time commitment: Approximately 3-10 hours per month

**Hours are closer to 8-10/month during the height of fundraising events and activities

Role Summary:

The Director of Fundraising will lead the Fundraising & Development Committee in developing a strategic and implementing a 2-year fundraising strategy. This strategy will secure funding through various revenue streams including corporate sponsorships, financial donations, in-kind donations, grants, events and major giving. The Director will also help identify potential sponsors, fundraising partners, ensure donor trust, enhance the financial health and longevity of our organization, plus work alongside the Social Media and Marketing team to develop survivor and trauma-informed messaging for the fundraising activities.

The Digital Sexual Violence Support Centre (DSVSC) is a federally incorporated non-profit that offers peer support, workshops, survivor-centred research and community outreach to adults who've experienced technology-facilitated sexual violence (TFSV). Committee Type: Standing (meets monthly throughout the year)

Committee Mandate: The Fundraising Committee leads the DSVSC’s efforts to secure funding through grants, sponsorships, partnerships and community donation campaigns. Committee members will support donor stewardship and ensure ethical fundraising efforts that reflect a trauma and survivor-informed values and messaging.

Meetings: Hold monthly fundraising and development committees and attend bi-monthly virtual Board of Directors meetings

Core Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the Fundraising & Development Committee, ensuring alignment with the organization’s strategic plan and annual budget.
  • Develop, implement and monitor a two-year fundraising strategy including suggested events, fundraising activities and timelines, which include diverse revenue streams (e.g. grants, donations, corporate sponsorships, community in-kind donations etc.)
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors and Executive leadership to ensure long-term sustainability.

2. Donor and Partner Relations

  • Cultivate and steward relationships with key donors, corporate sponsors, and philanthropic partners.
  • Lead ethical storytelling and trauma-informed donor engagement.
  • Represent the DSVSC at donor meetings, community events, and presentations.
  • Support the creation and execution of donor recognition activities and ensure appreciation practices reflect survivor-centered values.

3. Campaign and Event Oversight

  • Provide strategic oversight for fundraising campaigns, events, and appeals.
  • Ensure each campaign reflects the DSVSC's mission and ethical fundraising standards.
  • Engage fellow Board members in supporting fundraising initiatives.

4. Grants and Institutional Funding

  • Support the identification and cultivation of grant opportunities from foundations, governments, and corporations.
  • Collaborate with staff or consultants on proposals, reports, and funding renewals.
  • Review major grant deliverables to ensure they align with the organization’s mission and capacity.
  • Use an online tracking system to maintain detailed records of donor interactions, contributions, and campaign results
  • Manage data collection related to donor information, giving history, and outreach activities

5. Governance and Accountability

  • Regularly communicate the fundraising committee’s meeting decisions, challenges and planned fundraising events with the Board of Directors and the Executive Director
  • Ensure transparency and adherence to donor privacy, provincial and federal reporting requirements for a federally incorporated non-profit
  • Contribute to the annual budget process by providing input on projected fundraising revenue.
  • Prepare annual fundraising budget forecasts and performance reports for the Board of Directors President and the Executive Director
  • Track the progress of the fundraising strategy including identifying key milestones
  • Work alongside the social media and marketing team to ensure the fundraising event and activities’ messaging aligns with our brand guidelines, including prioritizing survivor-informed language

6. Team and Volunteer Engagement

  • Inspire and mobilize fellow Board members to participate in fundraising activities.
  • Support the Board fundraising committee members and volunteers involved in fundraising, ensuring collaboration and appreciation.
  • Co-create an annual work plan/outline of objectives for the fundraising committee members
  • Facilitate monthly virtual fundraising committee meetings with a team of at least 3-5 members

Qualifications (required)

  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English
  • Track record of securing donations, sponsorships, plus leading fundraising campaigns
  • Comfortable instructing a team of 3-5 fundraising volunteers
  • Comfortable with volunteer management, correspondence and scheduling
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build strong working relationships with funders, community leaders and related external stakeholders
  • Commitment to gender equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Comfortable networking both virtually and in-person, plus engaging in fundraising activities

(Preferred)

  • Partial or full completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Management, Accounting, Social Science or a related subject
  • Knowledge of donor management software
