Volunteer Director of Communications & Marketing
Volunteer Description
Help shape the public voice of talented young singers in one of Canada’s leading youth choirs.
The Ottawa Regional Youth Choir (ORYC) is seeking a volunteer Director of Communications & Marketing to help strengthen the choir’s public presence and support its continued growth in the community. Working with the Executive Director and ORYC’s leadership team, the Director will help guide communications initiatives and build a small volunteer team to support the choir’s storytelling, visibility, and audience engagement.
This is a leadership role focused on guiding communications strategy and coordinating a small volunteer team, rather than personally producing all communications materials.
The Director will play an important role in shaping how ORYC shares its story with the community and how the choir presents itself publicly as it continues to grow.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys communications strategy, storytelling, and building creative teams in a collaborative arts environment.
Early priorities for the role may include helping to lead and coordinate:
- Lead a collaborative re-branding initiative that engages choristers in shaping the choir’s future public identity
- Establish a strong and engaging social media presence
- Support promotion and awareness of both ORYC’s flagship choir and its new developmental choir
- Build relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets
- Re-ignite traditional communications such as newsletters, website updates, and community media outreach
- Recruit and lead a small volunteer communications team
The Director will guide these initiatives by setting priorities, coordinating volunteers, and ensuring ORYC’s communications reflect the choir’s artistic excellence and youth impact.
The role requires approximately 8–15 hours per month, with somewhat higher activity during concert promotion periods.
If this opportunity interests you, we would be delighted to hear from you. We welcome expressions of interest from individuals who are excited about helping young singers share their voices with the community.
How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
This role offers the opportunity to:
- Lead communications strategy for a respected arts organization

- Develop experience in arts marketing, branding, and media outreach
- Gain experience in strategic communications and nonprofit leadership
- Contribute to the growth and visibility of a youth arts organization making a meaningful impact
- Work closely with experienced leaders in the arts and nonprofit sectors
This role may be particularly valuable for individuals interested in arts administration, communications leadership, nonprofit management, or portfolio development.
How will the organization benefit?
Strong communications are essential to ORYC’s continued growth and visibility in the community.
The Director of Communications & Marketing will help the choir:
- Share the stories and achievements of talented young singers
- Expand awareness of concerts and programs
- Strengthen relationships with media and community partners
- Support recruitment for both the flagship choir and new developmental programs
- Refresh the choir’s public image through a collaborative re-branding process
- Build a sustainable communications team that supports ORYC’s long-term goals
