Volunteer Board Treasurer
The Victoria Choral Society (VCS) is an auditioned, symphonic choir located in Victoria BC. As a registered charity, our mission is to excel in the performance of classical and contemporary choral works, provide innovative development opportunities to emerging local artists, and inspire joy and passion for choral music in our community.
We are looking for a volunteer Treasurer with financial / accounting experience to join our Board of Directors. A CPA designation is helpful, but not necessary.
Key qualities include: accounting skills, critical thinking skills, excellent organizational abilities, clear communication style, and interest in strategic planning. We welcome both new and experienced accountants to apply. This position offers opportunities to contribute to the governance and financial management of our vibrant and welcoming performing arts organization, and to collaborate with an engaged community of volunteers, including our Board of Directors.
Responsibilities:
- Preparing monthly and year-end financial reports and statements;
- Preparing annual operating budgets and concert budgets, in consultation with the Board;
- Providing financial information and budgets as needed for grant applications;
- Preparing and submitting other forms (e.g. GST/HST refund report, performance royalty reports (SOCAN), Registered Charity Information Return, Directors/Trustees and Like Officials form, T4As Submission for Contracted Individuals, and other financial reports as required by regulators;
- Receiving, banking, and accounting for all funds payable to VCS;
- Paying all accounts approved by the Board;
- Keeping financial records and presenting financial statements to the board, the membership, and others when required;
- Participating in monthly Board meetings and our Annual General Meeting;
Orientation:
- Our outgoing Treasurer will meet with you to transfer files, share knowledge about the position, and answer any questions;
- Our Board President and Board members will provide assistance in orientation, including background on our mission and programs, as well as a Board orientation package, and will also be available to provide ongoing support.
Time Commitment:
- Board meetings scheduled once each month from 7:30-9 pm via Zoom and in person;
- Approximately 4 hours per week, according to your own schedule, except for the following periods;
- Up to 10 hours per week during September member registration period;
- Up to 8 hours per week during February to issue charitable receipts and T4As;
- Up to 8 hours per week during June up to the AGM date to prepare the Annual Financial Report;
- Ideally, a 2-year commitment.
