Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), North and West Vancouver branch is a not-for-profit, charitable organization. We provide a wide range of innovative and essential services and supports tailored to and in partnership with the communities of North and West Vancouver, Bowen Island, the Sunshine Coast, and the Sea-to-Sky Corridor.
The North and West Vancouver Branch of CMHA has been providing services to the North Shore community since 1958 and we embrace people with mental health issues in all facets of our organization – as Board Directors, volunteers, and employees. We dedicate ourselves to empowering, supporting, and improving the quality of life of mental health consumers and increasing the overall wellness of our communities.
Our current programs include: Crisis Response Community Led Team (“CRCL”), Low-Cost Counselling, Free Social Support Groups, Peer Support, Youth Programs, Supported Housing, Outreach, Training and Employment Support.
Our Board of Directors are dedicated to the organization’s mission, champion the importance of good governance and believe that every organization needs a strong and effective board to fully realize its potential for good. Our board members are active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and are engaged in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for our branch to advance its mission.
About the position:
Serving on our Board is a great opportunity for an individual who is passionate about mental health and care for our community, while diversifying their professional skillset.
Board members are expected to have some financial acumen, are expected to attend four board meetings per year, read board materials in advance of board meetings and to come prepared to ask questions and participate in discussions.
Board members are expected to responsibly represent the organization to advocate for CMHA NWV’s mission, programs, and services as appropriate.
Board terms last for three years and board members can serve for up to three consecutive terms.
We are looking for a number of volunteer board members with experience in the following areas:
- Legal
- Financial
- Indigenous Relations
- Social Services
