Rygiel Supports for Community Living is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with developmental disabilities to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives. Based in Hamilton, the organization focuses on a person-directed approach, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to thrive and hold valued roles within their community. Rygiel is committed to fostering inclusion and creating environments where all individuals experience dignity and respect.
For nearly 60 years, we have enriched the lives of the people we support through relationships, independence, belonging, and advocacy. We provide inclusive living, community participation, respite services, and specialized medical supports designed around the person — not the system.
We are seeking strategic, community-minded leaders to guide our next chapter.
Board Member Role Overview:
Board Members provide governance oversight, strategic direction, fiduciary
accountability, and stewardship of Rygiel’s mission, vision, and values. The Board operates
at a governance level, not an operational level, ensuring clarity between leadership and
management roles.
We are looking for subject matter experts in:
- Program Planning & Evaluation
- Government Relations
- Information Technology
- Human Resources
- Real Estate / Housing Development
- Lived Experience with Disability
Your background might include:
- Previous board governance experience, strategic leadership, and understanding of fiduciary responsibilities
- Financial acumen and ability to review budgets, financial reports, and funding proposals
- Knowledge of non-profit management, community development, or the social services sector
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders
Commitment:
- Commitment to the mission of empowering individuals with developmental disabilities
- Active participation in at least one committee (committees meet monthly)
- In-person attendance at our bi-monthly Board meetings - all meetings held on West Mountain, Hamilton.
- Attendance at Annual General Meeting
- Three-year term (renewable, maximum of three terms)
