ABOUT US

The Richmond Music School is the largest and oldest registered charity in Richmond, dedicated to providing affordable, high-quality music education for all ages. With over 45 years of impact, we have become a leader in arts education and community engagement. We are proud recipients of the 2020 City of Richmond Arts Education Award and serve as the only Canadian representative of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), a world-renowned exam board based in London, UK.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are currently seeking committed Board Members who are passionate about giving back and helping us grow. As a Board Member, you’ll play a meaningful role in guiding the direction of a long-standing charity with a deep community impact.

As a Board Member, you will:

  • Shape the future of the Richmond Music School through governance, strategy, and policy.
  • Ensure accountability by overseeing operations and organizational standards.
  • Support growth and sustainability, including fund development, succession planning, and strengthening governance practices.
  • Champion community impact by engaging with stakeholders and aligning the School’s mission with community needs.

TIME COMMITMENT

The Board meets on the last Thursday of each month (except December, July and August) at 7:30 pm for approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Most board meetings are held virtually, while the AGM that will be held in person at the Richmond Music School campus.

Expected time commitment for this role is about 8-12 hours per month, but may vary according to the school events or other on-going initiatives.

The Board members will be appointed at the Annual General Meeting which will be held on October 23rd, 2025. A one-year commitment is required.

QUALIFICATIONS

We welcome candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Fund Development / Fundraising
  • Governance & Strategic Planning
  • Public Relations / Communications
  • Succession Planning
  • Legal Expertise
  • Accounting / Financial Oversight

Knowledge of music or music education is not required—what matters most is your commitment and ability to contribute.

This is a hands-on governance opportunity for experienced professionals who want to share their expertise, or for emerging leaders seeking to build skills through meaningful volunteer work.
