Volunteer Board Member

Since 1990 Animal Alliance of Canada has been a not-for-profit organization, committed to the protection of all animals and to the promotion of a harmonious relationship among humans, non-humans and the environment.

The Board of Animal Alliance has a focus on strategic direction, governance, and oversight, with day-to-day operations entrusted to staff led by a Chief Executive Officer. Ad hoc subcommittees and campaign planning meetings provide Board Members additional opportunities for making contributions.

We are seeking dedicated and passionate individuals to join our Board of Directors who have knowledge and skills in one or more the following areas: legal and finance.

Responsibilities

1. Understand and promote the organization’s mission.
2. Keep up to date with issues and trends that affect the organization.
3. Understand and monitor the organization’s financial affairs and service results.
4. Avoid any potential conflicts of interest.
5. Understand and maintain confidentiality.
6. Ensure the organization is complying with all legal and regulatory requirements.
7. Attend and actively participate in board meetings (at least 2 per year).
8. Attend and actively participate in the annual general meeting.

Qualifications

1. Strong and effective leadership, management, and interpersonal skills.
2. Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
3. Person of integrity and high ethical standards.
4. Possess effective oral and written communication skills.
5. Subject matter expertise and/or experience in strategic planning/visioning including the identification, analysis, and setting of priorities.
6. Expertise in fundraising, governance, finance, and/or law would be an asset.
7. An ability to make personal donations and philanthropic connections, introducing staff to business and personal contacts, would be an asset.
8. Time to devote to organizational governance as a Board member.
9. Competent in the use of modern digital technology.
10. French language skills would be an asset.
