Unpaid Volunteer Position

Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada is a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to reaching every Canadian affected by a brain tumour through support, education, information and research.

The organization is seeking to fill its vacant board positions (April 2026) with individuals who are committed to the mission and vision of Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada and who have a passion for the non-profit sector. They bring with them a strategic lens that will help to guide the direction of the Foundation. They will have background in one or more of the following areas: health care, governance, law, finance, fund development, advocacy, and government relations.

Responsibilities

The Board of Directors is vested with the responsibility for carrying out the mission of Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada and overseeing its management and direction. The Board is responsible for planning and policy decisions, financial stability, the selection and evaluation of the CEO, and for evaluating and monitoring the work of Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada. A Director’s primary role is to serve the best interests of Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Serving as an ambassador and advocate for Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, to enhance understanding of the important role Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada plays in the delivery of needed services and programs.
  • Supporting Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada through fund development activities such as donor identification, cultivation, and stewardship; participation in the solicitation of gifts; and attending special events hosted by, sponsored by, or benefiting Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.
  • Assist in the identification and recruitment of prospective Board and Committee members.
  • Demonstrate commitment to Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada through personal contributions, including their time, skills and experience, and financial.
  • Be knowledgeable and adhere to Board level policies and practices.
  • Annually review and sign Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement and Conflict of Interest policies.

Commitment

  • 3-year term with the opportunity to renew for a second term.
  • Board members must serve on at least one Committee of the Board.
