WHO WE ARE
Pegasus provides adults with developmental disabilities day support on a yearlong basis. We offer small,
individualized programs in a wide range of activities, including fitness, life skills, employment, and
volunteering. The members of Pegasus have many levels of support needs, ranging from those who require
support with activities of daily living to those who are working towards a more independent life.
Pegasus also operates a social enterprise second-hand store (The Pegasus Shoppe) which is staffed by
Pegasus participants, support staff and community volunteers. Sales in the store help fund the organization.
Pegasus Community Project believes that all people are entitled to the opportunity to participate in the life
of their community and to grow as individuals. Pegasus was founded to provide these opportunities to adults
with developmental disabilities and to provide the support they may require to benefit from them.
Pegasus believes that the health and vitality of a community are enhanced when its members help each
other. Pegasus strives to create an environment that promotes mutual support, dignity, and respect.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Pegasus is seeking a passionate and motivated volunteer Director, with a range of skills and/or experience to
complement our current Board. We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in areas of
fundraising and accounting but also welcome individuals with expertise in public relations, government
policy, human resources, community development, communications, public health, IT, marketing, and social
media.
Time Commitment:
• The Board meets 10 times per year, on a hybrid schedule of virtual and in-person meetings
• Each Director should be available to serve on at least one committee.
Director Responsibilities:
• Provide strategic governance to the organization, ensuring that the mission, vision, and values are
upheld.
• Attend all Board meetings and participate independently and knowledgeably in all deliberations of the
Board.
• Stay informed about committee matters, prepare well for meetings, review and comment on minutes
and reports.
• Contribute to the development of policies to guide the organization towards its strategic goals.
• Operate with integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of people with developmental
disabilities.
• Approve the annual budget, audit reports, and review monthly activities as presented in the monthly
financial reports.
• Develop collegial working relationships with other Directors and committee members that contribute
to productive and effective meetings and outcomes.
• Review strategy and contribute to annual operating plans through constructive inputs.
• Cultivate relationships with our corporate and community partners.
• Participate in fundraising and other relevant special events (when needed)
Qualifications:
• Demonstrated professional, executive or leadership experience and accomplishments in business,
government, philanthropy, or the non-profit sector.
• Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening,
facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals.
• Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
