
Volunteer Board of Directors - Remote
The End FGM Canada Network is seeking dedicated, values‑driven volunteers to join our Board of Directors. We are a national, survivor‑led advocacy organization working to end Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) in Canada through education, policy change, community engagement, and survivor-centred leadership.
We are specifically recruiting individuals with medical, legal, board governance/ nonprofit leadership and fundraising experience to strengthen our leadership capacity and support our growing national mandate.
About the Role
Board Members provide strategic direction, governance oversight, and mission‑aligned leadership. This is a working board, and members actively contribute their time, expertise, and lived or professional experience.
Terms are 2 years, with an estimated commitment of 4–6 hours per month.
Priority Skill Areas
We strongly encourage applications from individuals with experience in:
●Medical or clinical practice - physicians, nurses, midwives, OBGYNs, public health professionals, or anyone with expertise in women’s health and or global health
●Legal expertise - lawyers, legal scholars, human rights specialists, or professionals with experience in gender‑based violence, immigration, or child protection law
●Board governance/ nonprofit leadership - individuals who have served on boards or have experience in governance, policy, or strategic oversight at an Executive Director level
●Fundraising - grant writing, fundraising, donor relationship management
●Lived experience - survivors of FGM/C and individuals from impacted communities are strongly encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
●Provide strategic guidance and governance oversight
●Participate in monthly virtual board meetings
●Support advocacy, public education, and community partnerships
●Contribute to policy development, communications, or fundraising initiatives
●Uphold survivor-centred, trauma‑informed values
●Represent the Network with professionalism and integrity

Time Commitment
