About the GRHVA

The GRHVA is a not-for-profit organization that provides products, services, and financial contributions to the Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN) through gift shop and Tim Horton’s operations across several sites (WRHN @ Chicopee and Midtown campuses). All profits generated across the GRHVA shops and services are donated back to the WRHN to enhance community experience.

About These Roles

The Grand River Hospital Volunteer Association (GRHVA) Board of Directors is recruiting for several volunteer leadership positions. These roles are an opportunity to contribute your professional expertise to a meaningful community organization — supporting a hospital volunteer association that serves patients, families, and staff across the Waterloo Region.

All Director positions are full-voting members of the Governing Board and are expected to be active participants in the duties associated with their respective portfolios. While these are primarily remote positions, occasional in-person attendance is required.

Individuals are elected to Director positions on the recommendation of the Nominating Committee and following a vote of the general membership held at the Annual General Meeting. Each position is a two-year appointment. No individual may hold the same position for more than two consecutive terms of office.

Open Positions

Vice President

The Vice-President supports the overall leadership and effective operation of teh Association. This role works closely with the President, Board, staff, and operational leaders to help oversee GRHVA's revenue-generating activities, including gift shop and Tim Horton's operations. The VP also supports governance, special projects, budgeting, operational planning, and acts in the President's place when required. This role requires an average time commitment of approximately 2-4 hours per month.

Director of Finance

The Director of Finance provides financial oversight and strategic guidance to the Board. This role works closely with the Association’s Accountant and Business Managers to support sound financial management, including financial reporting, compliance, and the overall fiscal health of the organization. This role requires an average time commitment of approximately 2-4 hours per month.

Director of Operations

The Director of Operations supports the effective day-to-day functioning of the Association’s activities. This role requires an average time commitment of approximately 3-6 hours per month.

Directors at Large

Directors at Large contribute broad strategic perspective and general governance support to the Board. These positions may be structured around a specific area of expertise where the organization has an identified need — such as IT, Legal, or community engagement — or may support general Board functions based on the individual’s background and the organization’s priorities at the time of recruitment. This role requires an average time commitment of approximately 1-3 hours per month.

Diversity & Accessibility: GRHVA is committed to providing a work environment that is diverse, inclusive, and accessible to applicants, staff, clients and visitors with disabilities. If you require accommodation at any time during the recruitment process, please inform Colin when he reaches out if you are selected for an interview.

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women, Indigenous people and people of colour are less likely to apply to roles unless they meet every single qualification in the job posting. At GRHVA, we are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment so we strongly encourage you to apply even if you don’t believe you meet every single qualification outlined but read this posting with excitement.

We thank all applicants for your interest in the GRHVA. Only those applicants selected for an interview will be contacted.
