Overall Duties
Qualifications and Requirements
Grief Stories is seeking a volunteer to join our board of directors to support our strategic fundraising priorities alongside our Board Director of Partnerships and Fund Development.
Each individual Board Member is expected to:
Know the organization’s mission, policies, programs and needs Read and understand the organization’s monthly financial reports Follow the organization’s by-laws, policies and Board resolutions Maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of the organization
Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization Leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve the organization’s mission Prepare for, attend and conscientiously participate in online Board meetings Attend Fundraising Subcomittee Meetings
Grief Stories is seeking a board member with the following skills, knowledge, and experience:
Expertise in one or more of the following: fundraising, marketing, policies and procedures, and partnership development Experience in fundraising, preferably within a non-profit organization considered an asset Strong understanding of fundraising strategies, including individual giving, corporate giving, and grant writing
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to build and maintain relationships with donors and potential supporters Passion for Grief Stories’ mission and a commitment to supporting those grieving the loss of a loved one Ability to work remotely with stable internet connection
Time Commitment
The term of office is two years, with a maximum of two consecutive terms The time requirement is approximately 4-5 hours per month plus a one-hour monthly virtual Board meeting

Training Information
Benefits
A comprehensive training/orientation package will be provided to new Board members, as well as a one-on-one virtual meeting with the Board Chair and Executive Director to respond to any questions.
Board members are to ensure they attend Orientation training and complete the orientation checklist (to be provided) within their first month on the board.

Our content aims to connect people who have been impacted by grief with hope, connection, stories, insights, and information. We create free resources about grief for people who are grieving, people supporting those in grief, and grief professionals. Our content library of videos, podcast episodes, blog posts, and information about creative healing tools are created with people with lived experience, as well as mental health professionals. We have begun to produce Toolkits on topics such as Suicide Loss, Infant and Reproductive Loss and Grief, Drug Poisoning, with more in the developmental stages.
