Mission Thrift Store Maple Ridge Board of Directors
Introduction
Through our joint ministry with Bible League Canada, Mission Thrift Store Maple Ridge places the Living Word of God into Bible-based literacy and leadership training programs as well as serving the persecuted Church, transforming the lives of men, women, and children in over 40 Countries.
The Board of Directors
Mission Thrift Store Maple Ridge is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Our board of directors comprises leaders from several sectors, both private and not for profit and passionate followers of Jesus Christ.
Our board members champion the importance of exceptional board leadership and believe that each organization needs a strong and effective board to fully realize its potential for good. In addition to the standard roles and responsibilities of a board member, our board members are active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and are fully engaged in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for Mission Thrift Store Maple Ridge to advance its mission.
Our Board Selection Committee reviews the Board’s competence, skills, and diversity regularly and recruits for specific positions which are presented to Mission Thrift Store Maple Ridge Board members or Store Membership for election. Officers of the Board are named on (three-year appointment) an annual basis during the Annual General Meeting, which traditionally takes place in the months of February - April each year. The Board of Directors meets monthly and runs a series of key Board Committees throughout the year, in close collaboration with Mission Thrift Store Manager.
Board Volunteer Position Overview:
We are excited to welcome new Directors with a passion and commitment to the mission of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ thru Bible League Canada.
Responsibilities:
• Regularly attend and actively participate in monthly Board meetings.
• Regularly attend and actively participate in at least one Board Committee. Committees include the Finance & Audit Committee, Governance Committee, Volunteer (community) Development Committee, and Health, Safety & Wellness Committee.
• Provide input in the development, management, and evaluation of policies, strategic plans, and business plans.
• Working as a board: monitor organizational finances including the approval of yearly budgets.
• Assess and mitigate risks facing the organization
• Ensure Mission Thrift Store Maple Ridge is in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
• advocate for and positively represent Mission Thrift Store Maple Ridge and BFM Foundation to the public.
• Participate in fundraising activities and initiatives in a manner commensurate with your ability.

Currently, we are welcoming applicants with the following experience and skills:
• A strong understanding and excitement for Board Governance, with previous experience sitting on other boards.
• Experience in IT/Systems
• Experience in Marketing
• Legal experience and expertise.
• Experience being a part of the Mission Thrift Store community
• Experience on a nonprofit board is an added positive
Time Commitment:
• Monthly meetings (10-20 hours per quarter, including reading board materials).
• 5 hours per month on average for committee work.
• Participation at our Annual General Meeting (prior to April 30th every year)
Location
Most of our meetings take place in person at the store or virtually through zoom.
