About Guido's Heart Legacy Foundation

Guido's Heart Legacy Foundation is a newly incorporated nonprofit based in Toronto, Ontario. Named in honour of our founder's late father — a vibrant, generous barber who spent his life making people smile and helping his community — we deliver a weekly food and community program at Northwoods Community Centre every Wednesday, serving low-income seniors, single mothers, and youth.

We also award the Guido Legacy Bursary — $1,000 annually — to a student enrolled in a hairdressing or barbering program at an Ontario government-funded college, prioritizing single parents and low-income seniors returning to school. In honour of a beloved barber, his legacy lives on in the next generation.

"Built on kindness. In his spirit — always a smile, always a hand."

We are in our founding year and looking for passionate professionals to join our board and help us grow with integrity.

About the Role

We are looking for a CPA or experienced accountant to join our founding board as a volunteer Director with a finance advisory focus. This is a low-commitment, high-impact opportunity to help a grassroots community foundation operate with financial integrity and accountability from day one.

The Foundation's President manages all day-to-day operations. Your role is to provide financial oversight and participate in quarterly board meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Attend 4 quarterly board meetings per year via Zoom or in person — approximately 30 to 60 minutes each
  • Review and approve the annual budget
  • Provide guidance on financial reporting requirements for grant funders
  • Advise on CRA compliance, T3010 charity registration when applicable, HST exemptions, and nonprofit tax obligations
  • Review financial statements and ensure grant funds are tracked and reported accurately
  • Help establish simple bookkeeping and financial controls appropriate for a small nonprofit
  • Advise on honorarium payments, T4A slips for volunteers, and payroll if applicable
  • Vote on board resolutions and approvals as required

Qualifications

  • CPA designation or significant accounting or finance experience
  • Experience with nonprofit financial management, grant reporting, or charity accounting — an asset but not required
  • Genuine interest in community food security, seniors, women and families, and youth
  • Practical and straightforward communication style
  • Willingness to respond to occasional brief email or phone questions between meetings

What You Get

  • The satisfaction of helping build something meaningful from the ground up
  • Board experience with a community-focused nonprofit
  • Professional development hours applicable to CPA Ontario requirements
  • A warm, passionate, mission-driven founding team
