Organization: Ontario Men’s Sheds Association (OMSA)
Location: Remote / Work-from-Home (Open to candidates across Ontario; head office based in Burlington, ON)
Commitment: 3–5 hours per week (Flexible hours)
Compensation: Volunteer role with strong potential to transition into a paid part-time position as organizational programs and funding scale
About the Role
The Ontario Men’s Sheds Association (OMSA) is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Volunteer Administrator & Storyteller to support our core operations and help amplify our reach.
This role offers a genuine opportunity to make a meaningful community impact from home. While starting as a light volunteer engagement, this position is designed to grow: as we expand our footprint across Ontario—particularly in Northern Ontario communities—we intend to transition this role into a formal, paid part-time administrative position.
We welcome candidates of all genders and diverse backgrounds who bring organizational rigor, digital literacy, and an authentic voice to community storytelling.
Key Responsibilities
- Administrative Support & Recordkeeping: Assist with day-to-day administrative tasks, basic bookkeeping entries, receipt management, and documentation to keep operations organized.
- Digital Literacy & Systems: Manage email inquiries, update shared files/spreadsheets (Google Workspace or Microsoft 365), and support routine digital workflows.
- Social Media & Storytelling: Create and schedule engaging posts across social platforms that showcase Shed projects, celebrate member milestones, and share the human impact of Men’s Sheds.
- Expansion Outreach Support: Help coordinate communications and build connections as OMSA expands outreach into Northern Ontario regions.
What We Are Looking For
- Organizational & Bookkeeping Aptitude: Comfort handling routine financial tracking, record organization, and basic administrative workflows.
- Communication & Storytelling: Strong writing skills with an eye for compelling human-interest stories that connect with community members, partners, and local groups.
- Digital Fluency: Proficiency with everyday online tools (email, spreadsheets, cloud storage) and social media channels (e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram).
- Self-Motivation: Ability to work autonomously and manage a few hours of weekly deliverables on a flexible schedule.
- Community Heart: An appreciation for grassroots community initiatives, peer support, and regional community development (experience with or connections to Northern Ontario are a strong asset).
Why Join Us?
- Direct Path to Paid Work: Be on the ground floor as this role expands into a paid part-time staff position.
- Complete Flexibility: Manage your own hours completely from home around personal or family commitments.
- Meaningful Impact: Play an active role in countering isolation, fostering community spaces, and supporting health and connection across Ontario.
