Webmaster/Designer/Developer
Job Location: Remote
Compensation: No remuneration; Opportunity for co-op, Canadapstones, volunteer, project placement, etc.
Number of Hours per Week: 5-20 (to be determined)

Join us in shaping the digital frontier of the Canadian Hispanic-Latin American Virtual Museum! You will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the presence of the online museum (https://chlavm.ca). This position offers an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about web development to contribute their expertise to creating engaging and user-friendly museum websites. Joining our team allows for pivotal contributions to the creation and maintenance of museum websites, leveraging innovative web technologies to enhance the museums online presence and visitor engagement.


Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Optimizing an exceptional user-experience and overseeing analytics for improvements.

  • Creating visually appealing website layouts and digital exhibit interfaces.

  • Designing graphics and multimedia elements for storytelling and engagement.

  • Building and maintaining the technical infrastructure of the website.

  • Writing code and integrating interactive features for user-interaction.

  • Troubleshooting technical issues and providing timely resolutions.

  • Optimize website performance and loading speed, implementing best practices for SEO and accessibility.

  • Collaborating effectively with the development team for updates and improvements.

  • Implementing and monitoring security measures to safeguard data.

  • Assisting with the integration of various multimedia content for exhibits.

  • Supporting virtual visitors with technical queries and concerns.

  • Administrative tasks pertaining to job duties and related responsibilities.

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency with web development tools and content management systems (e.g., Joomla, WordPress, HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, JavaScript).

  • Installing and creating plugins, pages, and posts, as well as the markup of text and images and injecting basic metadata.

  • Some experience with UX processes to understand user-journey and visual design flow.

  • Must be able to project manage the organization of content and related layout to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to diagnose and solve technical issues efficiently.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and drive projects forward without constant supervision.

  • Effective communication skills to collaborate within a team and assisting virtual visitors.

  • Understanding of cybersecurity measures to protect digital assets.

  • Enthusiasm for technology and a keen interest in cultural heritage.

Qualifications:

  • Language Required: English, fluency in French and/or Spanish is an asset but not required.

  • Level of Education: Post-Secondary is a minimum. Open to students.

  • Capability to perform the above tasks and responsibilities independently with minimal supervision.

  • Successful applicants will need to provide a criminal record check and sign NDA.
