Job Title: Digital Archivist
Job Location: Remote
Compensation: No remuneration; Opportunity for co-op, Canadapstones, volunteer, project placement, etc.
Number of Hours per Week: 5-20 (to be determined)

Join us in shaping the digital frontier of the Canadian Hispanic-Latin American Virtual Museum! You will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the presence of the online museum (https://chlavm.ca). This position offers an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about preserving digital cultural heritage within a virtual museum environment. Applicants should demonstrate a strong background in digital archiving, proficiency in relevant tools and methodologies, and a commitment to preserving digital materials. Tasks and Responsibilities:

Curate, manage, and preserve digital records, artifacts, and exhibits within the virtual museum's collections, ensuring their long-term accessibility and usability.

Develop and implement strategies for the acquisition, appraisal, and ingest of digital assets into the museum's archives, adhering to established standards and best practices.

Catalog and organize digital collections, applying metadata standards and classification systems for efficient retrieval and management of digital content.

Collaborate with content creators, curators, and IT teams to maintain the integrity and authenticity of digital materials and ensure compliance with preservation standards.

Conduct regular assessments and audits of digital collections, performing necessary maintenance and updates to preserve the quality and usability of archived materials.

Stay updated on emerging technologies and methodologies in digital preservation, contributing insights and recommendations to enhance archival practices.

Assisting with the integration of various multimedia content for exhibits.

Administrative tasks pertaining to job duties and related responsibilities.
Required Skills:

Strong knowledge and experience in digital archiving, preservation, and curation practices within a museum or cultural institution.

Proficiency in cataloging systems, metadata standards, and digital asset management tools for organizing and managing digital collections.

Familiarity with digital preservation standards (e.g., OAIS, PREMIS) and best practices for maintaining the authenticity and integrity of digital records.

Excellent organizational and analytical skills, attention to detail, and accuracy in managing digital archives.

Collaboration skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders involved in digital content creation and curation.

Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and methodologies in digital archiving and preservation.

Strong problem-solving skills and proactive attitude towards ensuring the long-term accessibility and usability of digital materials.

Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and drive projects forward without constant supervision.

Enthusiasm for technology and a keen interest in cultural heritage.
Qualifications:

Language Required: English, fluency in French and/or Spanish is an asset but not required.

Level of Education: Post-Secondary is the minimum. Open to students.

Capability to perform the above tasks and responsibilities independently with minimal supervision.
