Title of position:
Virtual Dementia Tour Guide
Purpose:
The Virtual Dementia Tour Guide works in collaboration with the public education team to deliver simulated experiences for clients and general public on what it may feel like to live with dementia.
Tasks/Responsibilities:
• Set up VDT consent/dressing room and experience room
• Volunteers may be asked to either welcome registrants, ensure consents are signed, and equipment is provided, or they may be the observer in the experience room
• Report hours in the volunteer management software Better Impact after each visit
• Complete an incident report immediately following an incident of concern
• Respect and adhere to the policies and procedures and privacy and confidentiality of the Alzheimer Society Durham Region.
Qualifications:
Virtual Dementia Tour Guides must experience the tour as a participant before volunteering.
Time commitment:
3-4 hours per shift.
Orientation/Training:
Once general orientation is completed, this volunteer will be required to experience the tour as a participant to further knowledge and understanding.
Screening:
Volunteer application, interview, police check, reference checks, orientation and training.
Evaluation/Success measures
All volunteers will receive annual feedback.
Supervision:
Public Education Team, Manager of Community Engagement & Training
Benefits:
Volunteers will gain a deeper insight into what it might be like to live with dementia and will be able to support participants in their learning as well.
