Position Title: Virtual Day Program Volunteer Assistant
Placement Type: Remote
Location: 3333 Finch Ave East
Duration: Minimum 3-month commitment needed
Hours of Work: Wednesdays for 1 hour
Volunteers needed: 2 (1for English, 1 for Cantonese)
Reports to: Day Program Team Leader
Position Summary:
SPLC is seeking enthusiastic and compassionate volunteers to support our Virtual Day Program for older adults. Volunteers will join a small group session once a week via Zoom, engaging participants in friendly, social conversations.
We are currently recruiting for two positions:
• 1 volunteer for our English program
• 1 volunteer for our Cantonese program
Volunteers will receive orientation and guidance from SPLC staff, including conversation tips and appropriate topics for discussion.
Responsibilities:
- Log in punctually each week to facilitate the session.
- Confirm participant attendance based on staff-provided information.
- Lead and engage in meaningful conversation with participants.
- Communicate any concerns to the staff team lead.
- Keeping accurate and organized records of interactions, progress, and outcomes in a secure and confidential manner is essential.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Friendly, engaging, and respectful communication style.
- Comfortable initiating and leading group conversations on a variety of topics.
- Experience with Zoom or willingness to learn.
- Cantonese language skills required for Cantonese program.
Orientation/Training:
- Volunteer Services will conduct orientation on organization’s policies and procedures, including COVID-19 measures.
- Position related orientation and training will be performed by direct supervisor.
Supervision and Evaluation:
- Supervision and support will be provided by the Day Program Team Leader.
Other:
- Vulnerable Service Sector Check screening is mandatory.
- Proof of full vaccination or Medical Exemption Certificate is mandatory.
- Must be 16 years or older.
