Friends of Ruby is dedicated to supporting the well-being of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth aged 16-29 through mental health services, social programs, and housing. We operate a Youth Drop-In Centre, offering barrier-free counselling, hot meals, and community programming, and a Transitional Home, providing emergency and long-term housing with life-skills support.

About the Role
The Vice President, Fund Development & Marketing will envision, articulate, and execute a comprehensive multi-year philanthropic and marketing strategy that fuels Friends of Ruby's mission and growth, while fostering a culture of philanthropy across the organization. This senior leadership role is accountable for leading the development and marketing team with clarity, decisiveness, and accountability. Success looks like building a robust, diversified funding pipeline with consistent six-figure and transformational commitments; achieving and exceeding annual revenue goals; strengthening an organization-wide philanthropic culture; successfully positioning the organization for a multi-million dollar campaign that enables FoR to significantly expand its impact for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth; and elevating the FoR brand through integrated, mission-aligned marketing and communications.
Revenue Goals & Performance Targets (2026-2027 Fiscal Year)
- Total Annual Fundraising Revenue: $7.5M (Year 1 of roadmap to $10M by Year 3)
- Major & Transformational Gifts ($25K+): $4.5M total
– Personal portfolio goal: $1.2M
– Secure 4–6 gifts at $100K+ and 1–2 gifts at $500K+ - Corporate Partnerships: Secure 5–7 new partners; achieve $800K–$1M in total revenue
- Foundation & Government Grants: Secure $2.5M–$3M combined; increase multi-year commitments by 25%
- Multi-Year Commitments: Secure 15–20 agreements (2–5 years) representing $2.5M+ in committed future revenue
As VP, Fund Development & Marketing, you will be responsible for:
- Strategy & Revenue Growth: Lead a multi-year philanthropic strategy, build a diversified funding model (major gifts, corporate, foundations, government, events, digital), and execute a future campaign to build a $10M+ revenue roadmap securing $25M–$50M in multi-year funding.
- Major Gifts & Relationships: Personally manage a high-value donor portfolio; secure six- and seven-figure gifts with an individual goal of $1M+ annually; structure complex, multi-year gift agreements per CRA guidelines.
- Marketing & Brand: Lead integrated marketing and communications to elevate the FoR brand, drive donor engagement, translate program impact into donor-centric narratives, and serve as chief philanthropy ambassador and brand steward.
- Data & Accountability: Use CRM analytics and prospect research to guide strategy; track quarterly/annual metrics; report progress to leadership and the board.
- Leadership & Culture: Lead, mentor, and grow the development and marketing team; build systems and accountability; guide the Board's Fund Development Committee; activate the Executive Director and Board as fundraisers; foster an organization-wide culture of philanthropy.
- Equity & Compliance: Apply a deep understanding of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth realities, trauma-informed storytelling, and equity-centered fundraising; ensure CRA compliance, Donor Bill of Rights, and ethical practices.
What You Bring
- Education: Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred. CFRE designation or progress toward it strongly preferred.
- Experience: 7–10 years of progressive philanthropic leadership, with 3+ years at Senior Director or VP level.
- Fundraising Track Record: Proven ability to secure six-figure/transformational gifts; experience leading or contributing to multi-million-dollar campaigns that exceeded revenue targets.
- Team Leadership: Experience managing a senior fundraising and marketing team across major gifts, communications, and donor stewardship.
- Marketing & CRM: Demonstrated experience in integrated marketing, brand management, digital marketing, and content creation; proficiency with CRM software (e.g., Raiser's Edge NXT, Bloomerang).
- Compliance: Deep knowledge of CRA guidelines, Donor Bill of Rights, and ethical charitable giving practices.
