Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival Seeking New Board Member

The Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival Society (VCBF) is excited to invite applications for a new volunteer director on our board.

Applications close September 15, 2026.

New directors will be appointed at the October 2026 AGM.

The VCBF acknowledges that it is situated on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation).

Mission:

To actively engage diverse communities through accessible arts and culture that celebrates the transcendent fragile beauty of the cherry blossom. To sustain & renew Vancouver's cherry tree heritage.

This beloved festival will be hosting its 21st festival in the spring of 2027. The Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival has a simple aim: to connect people from all walks of life through free, low-cost, and low-barrier programming. Drawing inspiration from the Japanese cultural tradition of hanami (花見, “flower viewing”), VCBF affects gathering in the spirit of friendship and initiates awareness of the cherry blossom’s transcendent beauty. Each year, the festival encourages artists to express their responses to these extraordinary trees through music, poetry, photography, design, cuisine, and other artistic practices.

The Role:

The VCBF is seeking to diversify the Board with members who have expertise with fundraising, leadership and networking with the business community in Vancouver.

Director’s role:

1. Attend monthly Board of Directors’ meetings that are 60-90 minute long
2. Prepare for each Board of Directors’ meeting by reviewing previous meeting minutes, as well as reading reports and documents circulated in advance of meetings
3. Be qualified as per and comply with the BC Societies Act, the Association’s Constitution and Bylaws, and the VCBF Directors’ Code of Conduct

Expectations:

1. You believe that bringing people together through arts, culture and movement is paramount to building strong communities, reducing isolation, combatting loneliness and improving mental wellness.
2. Active participation in the Board’s planning, monitoring and evaluation responsibilities
3. Active participation in the Board’s governance role of over-sight and accountability for the activities of the association
4. Participation on at least one special project committee throughout the year
5. Attendance at VCBF events in March and April
