Job Posting – Uquutaq Society

Chief Executive Officer

Uquutaq means “windbreak — a shelter, a place to rest and stay warm” in Inuktitut.

Uquutaq Society is a non-profit organization committed to providing healthy, safe and dignified housing, shelter and other services in Iqaluit, Nunavut. We offer high- and low-barrier shelter spaces, transitional and affordable housing. Our commitment to helping our clients develop life skills to build and maintain independent lives in the community drives our growth and expansion of our sites and services.

As CEO, you will lead the vision and operations of the organization— defining its strategy, building and developing its team, and leading initiatives that will have a lasting impact across the community.

Reporting to the Board, the CEO will drive strategic planning, oversee major projects, ensure financial sustainability, and serve as the organization’s primary representative while fostering strong relationships with our communities, governments, and partners.

The ideal candidate is an experienced senior leader with a strong understanding of Canada’s North, preferably with Inuit connections, who brings both strategic capability and cultural awareness. They will have a proven track record in building teams, managing capital projects, and engaging partners, along with a deep commitment to community impact.

Knowledge of Inuit Nunangat, Inuit governance structures, and experience supporting people facing barriers to housing and stability will be considered strong assets. Fluency in Inuktut is considered a significant asset.

This is a purpose-driven, legacy defining, leadership role offering you the chance to create lasting change for the Iqaluit community through sustainable, culturally aligned housing solutions.

The successful incumbent must be willing to live and work in Iqaluit, Nunavut. Relocation assistance and housing support is provided if required, along with a comprehensive salary and benefits package.
