University Counsellor (Grades 9 - 12)

Permanent - Full Time (60% Counselling and 40% Teaching)

Commencing August 31, 2026

What You’ll Do:

Academic Counselling 60% = time equivalent to 3 sections

  • Expertly advises, supports, coaches, and empowers students on the best course pathways to reach their post-secondary goals.
  • Builds meaningful relationships with students and their families based on knowing students’ attributes and strengths and assisting them in realising their academic objectives.
  • Refers students to other resources across the school and externally where needed.
  • In collaboration with the University Counsellors, fosters a strong, contemporary post-secondary counselling program that develops students’ decision-making skills and fosters independence
  • Communicates an understanding of university application procedures, and testing requirements to students, their families and the School and can help prepare students to meet those demands.
  • Understands current trends and university entrance expectations and actively keeps on top of changing requirements.
  • Familiar with or committed to learning about the most current online technology for application processes through OUAC, UCAS, and Naviance.

Teaching 40% = 2 sections

  • The teaching preference is for someone to teach two Grade 10 Civics and Careers courses however other teachables will be considered.

Administrative

  • Monitors and reviews student achievement during the reporting cycle.
  • Understands and keeps on top of the purpose and function of the Credit Counselling Summary, OSSD transcript and OSR ministry regulations.
  • Resolves course conflicts and manages timetable changes.
  • Management of students involved in ACT/SAT preparation.

Who You Are:

  • Ontario Teaching Certificate and Guidance Specialist preferred
  • Equivalent university or independent school admissions experience
  • Solid understanding of and extensive experience working with Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) Ontario Student Records (OSR) and Ontario Student Transcript (OST) requirements.
  • Understanding of Growing Success and current practices of assessment and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, multi-task, adapt to change and work under pressure.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the proven ability to develop relationships and a caring rapport with students and their families and teachers.
  • Expertise in developing and facilitating student and parent workshops.
  • Has the ability to understand and interpret data that can be applied to professional and school goals
  • Commitment to participate as a collaborative member in all aspects of the department, school and in school life.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
  • A growth mindset of continuous improvement and learning

Annual compensation is based on our Faculty Grid, which factors in qualifications and up to 12 years of teaching experience. Rates are set to increase for the 2026–2027 academic year.

  • Entry to 6 Years: $69,000 – $98,000
  • Over 6 Years: $99,000 – $134,000
