Job Title: Union Representative
Salary: Subject to collective agreement
Location: Nova Scotia (Dartmouth office)
The Service Employees International Union Local 2 (SEIU Local 2) is a 20,000-member organization that represents workers in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. We are currently seeking a Union Representative to work out of our Dartmouth, Nova Scotia office.
Position:
The Union Representative is responsible for assisting SEIU Local 2 members in negotiating and enforcing their collective agreement. The Union Representative mobilizes members to build worker power in the workplace and raise standards across the sectors they work.
Duties include:
- Identifying, training and activating workplace leaders.
- Engaging membership through workplace meetings, surveys and campaigns.
- Representing workers in disciplinary and grievance meetings.
- Enforcing the collective agreement through grievances.
- Enforcing labour laws through various complaint mechanisms.
- Negotiating collective agreements.
- Training worker-leaders.
Qualifications:
- Experience administering collective agreements.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to member-driven unionism and/or experience as a social justice activist.
- Valid Drivers license and vehicle.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
- Experience in external organizing methods a plus.
- Strong aptitude for managing online database systems.
