The Organization: Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC)

TRIEC is a not-for-profit dedicated to fast-tracking skilled newcomers into careers, not just jobs! Since 2003, we have created and championed innovative solutions to integrate immigrants into the labour market with employment commensurate with their education and experience.

We are recognized as leaders for our ability to convene and collaborate across multiple sectors, including employers, community, ecosystem, and government partners. Our aim is to strengthen employers' access to immigrant talent, address emergent labour force needs, and help newcomers thrive.

TRIEC helps our employer partners connect with programs and resources that help them better recruit and retain immigrant employees, build diverse and inclusive workplaces, and assist immigrants in building professional networks. For TRIEC, this is a pivotal time of growth and innovation. We are undertaking a digital transformation journey to further innovate our programs, scale their impact, and better serve employers and newcomers.

The Opportunity:

TRIEC’s Board works in partnership with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to ensure effective governance of the organization. The Board provides strategic leadership and governance oversight, while the CEO leads operations.

The Board actively works to identify and recruit Board members willing to contribute their professional experience, insights and lived experience to further the organization’s strategic objectives and the Board’s governance capacity.

As various terms come to an end, we are currently looking for three strategic and engaged individuals in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) with non-profit board governance, industry and professional experience, and knowledge of Canada’s immigration sector. We are particularly interested in professionals with expertise in the following areas:

  • Fundraising
  • Technology
  • Legal
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Program Development

Board terms are 3 years, with the option to renew. Board members commit approximately 4 to 6 hours per quarter through attendance and active participation in quarterly meetings, an annual Board retreat, and membership on a Board committee or working group.

Currently, meetings are held either in person or virtually. Board members are also expected to leverage their networks, connections, and resources to advance the organization's work.

This is an exciting time for TRIEC. Being a Board member offers the opportunity for individuals passionate about supporting newcomers to reach the summit of their talents, to build a stronger and more inclusive economy, and make the community a better place for all.
