Overview
iSisters is an Ottawa-based, low-cost, high-impact charity that mentors women facing barriers with free skills development programs about computers, the internet and getting a job. iSisters’ programs are designed in collaboration with partner organizations and customized for the specific learning needs of the students to equip them with essential technological and employability skills.
The Board of Directors is the legal authority for iSisters Technology Mentoring (iSisters). As a volunteer member of the Board, a Director acts in a position of trust for the community and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization.

Treasurer Responsibilities:
- Oversees the management and reporting of the organization’s finances.
- Ensures monthly accounting is completed in accordance with GAAP guidelines and that internal controls are in place.
- Drives creation of the organization’s annual budget, with the Executive Director (ED).
- Serves as Chair the Finance and Risk Management Committee.
- Acts as signing officer for payments, cheques and other documents, including biweekly payroll.
- Prepares for and supervises the annual external audit and prepares the organization’s annual charitable tax return
- Provides financial guidance to the ED, bookkeeper, Chair and Board of Directors.
- Oversees the development and observation of the organization's financial policies.
- Keeps the board regularly informed of key financial events, trends, concerns, and assessment of fiscal health.
- Has the ability to devote 6-8 hours monthly to the role.
General Board Member Responsibilities:
- Approves policy and other recommendations received from the Board, its committees and senior staff.
- Participates in the development of iSisters’ strategic planning process.
- Approvse the hiring and performance management of the executive director.
- Assists in developing donors, funders, sponsorships and awareness of the charity in our community.
- Commits to serving a minimum three year term.
Qualifications
- Personal commitment to, and belief in, the purpose of iSisters, including our mission and core values.
- Accounting designation (CPA/CA/CMA/CGA)
- Experience in Finance at a corporate level, including management of restricted revenue
- Strong organizational and strategic thinking
- Previous experience as a Treasurer an asset
