We are a registered charity run by volunteers, based in Mississauga, ON. We connect neighbourhoods to nature, and are working to establish a citywide network of native pollinator habitat gardens. Our education and outreach programs provide opportunities for inclusive community engagement, skill development, and collaboration. We envision a city with a resilient, biodiverse ecosystem that fosters community engagement through meaningful interactions with nature.

As a member of our Board Executive, our Treasurer will oversee the general financial management of Blooming Boulevards. You will plan and keep track of budgets within the organization, collect, deposit, and keep track of funds, write cheques, and provide financial reports regularly to fellow committee members. You will also be responsible for reconciling bank statements, managing cash flow, investing funds in accordance with the law, and may help with fundraising efforts that support our charitable purposes.

Key Responsibilities

The Treasurer plays a key leadership role in stewarding Blooming Boulevards’ financial health and long-term sustainability. This includes:

  • Financial stewardship reporting: Oversee financial statements; present clear, decision-useful financials to the Board.
  • Audit compliance: Liaise with external auditors; ensure controls, funder compliance, CRA/ONCA obligations, and policies are in place and effective
  • Risk Management: Monitor cash flow, reserves, and capital planning; recommend risk mitigation policies appropriate for NFPs.
  • Committee leadership: Chair the Finance Committee; collaborate with the Executive Director and finance staff (if applicable); support Board education on financial literacy.
  • Governance: Contribute to Board strategy, policy development, and ethical, transparent decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA (CA/CMA/CGA) or international equivalent (required).
  • At least 5 years of experience in nonprofit or public sector financial management.
  • Familiarity with ASNPO, funder reporting, restricted contributions, grants, and audits as applied to charities.
  • Strong communication skills and collaborative approach.
  • Ability to work with a bookkeeper, accountant, and auditor.
  • Proficient skills using Quickbooks.

Commitment:

  • Blooming Boulevards membership
  • 3-year term (renewable)
  • Monthly board meetings and regular Executive team meetings
  • Estimated 8-10 hours/month
  • Mississauga area residency preferred: board meetings are usually held on Zoom, but many other activities require in-person involvement.
